Questionable Christmas Movies

It’s a Wonderful Life. Obviously, that’s a given for the holiday season. But from my room I can hear my dad watching Planet Terror in the living room. Hey, I don’t judge, he picked that from my movie collection.

I opted for The Royal Tenenbaums, as always. Nothing like black comedy about a dysfunctional family of quasi-geniuses to put me in the holiday spirit.

Merry Christmas everyone! (Will hopefully be posting at least one review soon!)

Busy

With school having started two weeks ago, I have been deprived of any and all movies currently playing in theatres. Aside from the movies screened during my lengthy lectures (I’m studying film), I really haven’t seen much.

So if any of you have seen Colombiana, Contagion, Drive, Straw Dogs, Warrior, or The Whistleblower, I would love to know what you thought of them because I may have to wait until they hit the nearest rental store.

Saying you don’t like violence in movies is like saying you don’t like tap-dancing sequences in movies. It’s just one of the many things that movies can do. You may not like it, but to suggest that it shouldn’t be in the film is ridiculous; that’s artistic handcuffs.

firebolting:

Christian Bale in Zhang Yimou’s The Flowers of War, previously titled Heroes of Nanking. The true-life drama is set against the backdrop of the 1937 Nanking Massacre, when Japan’s army overran China’s capital city. An American (Bale) trapped amidst the chaos of battle and the ensuing occupation takes shelter in a church, joined by a group of schoolgirls and 13 courtesans, and helps leads the group to fight back. The film is about 60% Mandarin-language and 40% in English and will have its world premiere in Beijing on December 16.
